Jason Mraz in words

Picture
Jason Mraz is one of my favorite singers ever. His music is an inspiration and I know almost all of his songs so I decided to make a portrait of him using his own lyrics. This drawing only has words, of his own lyrics and they include songs such as "Word Play", "Sleeping to dream", "I'm Yours", "Beautiful Mess", "Curbside Prophet" and "The Remedy". To make this portrait I searched for a picture that i thought was appropriate. I sketched the picture in a piece of paper witha pencil and when I was pleased with the drawing i searched for the songs lyrics. I then used a thin black pen to write the lyrics of the songs in the siloutte of Jason Mraz. I first made all the edges and the background and the hat, then i used a pecil to create shadowing effect. everything is made from words and the pencil was the best way to create the shadows of the drawing.

I love how this drawing turned out. Jason Mraz being one of my favorite singer made me put a lot of effort into making this drawing. It was hard filling it completely with words, specially doing the shadows since some parts had to be lighter than the others. It also got a little tiring to write a lot of words in order for the picture to look complete.  It was hard to make some parts look darker than others, i had to write over the words to create the effect and sometimes it looked too dark so I had to erase it and start over. The easiest part was to do the background because it was simple as to write straight and with a beautiful red that makes the face stand out. I am glad of how the project turned out and I love it.

NeverShoutNever!

Picture
This is the painting based on Pop Art of one of my favorite singers ever, Christofer Drew Ingle, member of NeverShoutNever! I based my project on my knowledge of pop art and used the same color to paint the whole face, and the opposite color for the background. I used blue tones and a reddish color for the background. First I chose a picture and drew a grid on top of it, then did the same on a canvas, calculating the amount of squares fit on the paper and canvas so the drawing would be in proportion. I sketched the picture into the canvas very carefully. Later, I needed to paint it so I chose to use to use blue tones, so I created a variety of tones by mixing blue with black and white. I made about 5 different tones and then began painting my canvas by painting the darker areas with the darker blue and so on. I used value to create a more real effect. Once i finish painting the face I used a really bright red color for the background so the face would stand out.

I like how the painting turned out and it took a long time to do it. It was a long process but looking at it I know it was worth it.  The easiest part for me was drawing on pencil the picture because the grid made it easier to draw. Everything was in proportion and I thought the original picture was very simple to draw. Also, since I was suing a pencil I could erase. The hardest part and also a little frustrating was painting the face with value. At first I did the hair which was simple but every time I painted the face, I couldn't finish in one class so the next class it dried and it was hard to continue with the value. I painted the face over about 3 times until I was satisfies but in all I think it looks similar to the original drawing, not the same because the part of the mouth is different because it was complicated to draw it exactly as in the picture but I think it turned out great.

My Collage

Picture
I made a collage that reflects me and my life. This collage shows the thing I like, the people I love and just a little about my personality.  To make this collage I had to be very careful to choose what to include in the collage. I had to look for pictures I wanted to include and had to look in a bunch of magazines for images I think would fit my collage. I found trees, words such as "summer" and "memories" which are perfect to describe me and my favorite times. After gathering everything that I wanted to include in my collage I arranged everything so I would know where everything would be. It took me some time to make it all fit properly and then I pasted all the pictures and cut outs, and colored with crayons the white spaces. Then, I wrote my name because it is me and my life.

I LOVE how this collage turned out because every time I look at it I smile because it reminds me of a lot of things. In the middle I put a picture with my brother because he is one of my favorite people ever and I love him so much. Also I have things I believe represent me and some of my favorite times so I think it's nice to have a collage with a lot of things, small things, that can say a lot about one person. It was hard to look for what to include because I thought I needed to include every single detail about me but then I decided to be more simple and just have what matters so it would also have a lot more meaning. I loved doing this project because it brought back a lot of memories I am always glad to remember.
